SÃO PAULO, April X 2021 – Amazon Prime Video announces a new season of the Amazon Original series, El Presidente, which begins production this month in Uruguay. With a story that focuses on Brazil, this season brings together famous characters, figures and players from the soccer world, including Brazilian and former FIFA president João Havelange, among others.
El Presidente’s first season, which premiered in 2020, offered viewers an inside look into the story of the 2015 “FIFA Gate” corruption scandal. Set against the backdrop of cities across Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, the series addressed the sports scandal that rocked the world through the story of Sergio Jadue, the president of a small Chilean football club, who rose from obscurity to become a key player in a $150MM bribery conspiracy.
The second season will feature eight one-hour episodes with the return of Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Armando Bó (Birdman) of About Entertainment, as the showrunner and executive producer. El Presidente is co-produced by Gaumont with production partners, Fabula, the Academy Award-winning production company led by Pablo and Juan de Dio Larraín; Argentina-based production company Kapow, led by Agustín Sacanell and Lucas Rainelli, and About Entertainment.
Prime members are able to enjoy the first season, anytime and anywhere, through the Prime Video app or on www.PrimeVideo.com.
