In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar(r) winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

There is a not so fairy tale feel of SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTMAN. It does not seem like there is any feeling through most of the film. Kristen Steward who plays Snow White has little to no emotion throughout the story. Her portrayal of Snow White comes to a very bland moment right from the beginning. Snow White gets sympathy for losing her parents and being locked up but really there’s not much likability to her. She has close to no charm, although she is attractive in many scenes. She doesn’t seem as strong as the character needs to be. It just hardly feels right. The Huntsman does a good job of being very pathetic in the beginning. There is not much of his background story to tell. It’s referenced but not much story there. If his past was so important it would not have been forgotten so quickly. The interaction between the two main characters seems to nothing until close to the end of the film.

The best scene comes in an enchanted underground forest. Being saved and safe for an instance Snow White goes to meet a giant antelope. Throughout the mostly boring storyline, Charlize Theron, the evil queen does many things to create excitement. Her evil ways entice the audience. Getting to the point where you root for the queen. Theron’s amazing in the film and does an incredible portrayal. Her look is stunning, her attitude is fierce. She sucks the audience back in to the story. Strong scenes of devious deeds create an insatiable character.

The action sequences are good and adequate. They may not be many but they are well shot. It’s not all bad, the story may be lacking but the scenery is incredible. The shot selection is well put together.

I would give SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN DVD…a 2 out of 5 Popcorns. Not really a movie I’d recommend to watch but not a total waste of time.
