Mike the Movie Guy on September 17th, 2012 | DVD REVIEWS
The title truly says it all, “My Sucky Teen Romance.” Not only does it make fun of pop-culture as it makes fun of teen vampire romance, which is exactly what the movie is about, but the acting is just as bad. They are all young actors with different levels of experience but the acting in this film has much to be desired. The story starts in the 50′s outside a diner with an innocent looking girl and a bad boy biker boy. The surprise comes when the girl turns out to be a vampire. The story then continues in with comic book fans coming out of high school who are trying to enjoy their final comic book convention in their small town. Two of them fighting turning into a vampire after being bite. The whole story takes place during the two day comic book festival.
The whole thing is pretty cliche and cheesy. The story seems to have many holes and each character seems to be very clumsy. Not much story is there to each character but the story has progression and emotion. All the characters seem to be appealing to a generation of comic book fans and teen vampire romances. The story never fully develops. There is no clear bad guy, although there are two possible villains. The good guys way outnumber the villains. It ends on an upbeat note but the logic to the ending is very flawed. I am torn between deciding if I would watch this movie again or not. It tries to tap into teen comedies never quite reaches that level of comedy. Do you have an hour and a half to kill? And if it really does not matter what you watch, I recommend this movie. It’s in limited release.
I give MY SUCKY TEEN ROMANCE…2 our of 5 popcorn’s.
