Netflix Unveils When Fandom Begins For Some of Today’s Most Popular Series
Los Gatos, Calif., September 23, 2015 — It may have taken Walter White nearly an entire season to become Heisenberg and Frank Underwood 13 episodes to become VP (spoiler alert!), but it turns out fans committed to these series long before those plot twists unfolded. Hint: it wasn’t in the pilot episode.
Netflix analyzed its global streaming data* across the inaugural seasons of some of today’s most popular shows – both Netflix original series and shows that premiered on other networks – looking for signals that pointed to when viewers became hooked. It turns out that when commercia breaks and appointment viewing are stripped away and consumers can watch an entire season as they choose, you can see fandom emerge. That is, 70% of viewers who watched the hooked episode went on to complete season one or more poetically, when members were hooked and there was no turning back…

LAS LEYENDAS TO BE FIRST ANIMATED
NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES PRODUCED IN LATIN AMERICA
Created by Anima Estudios in Mexico, season one of the children’s series will premiere worldwide in 2017
Beverly Hills, Calif., September 17, 2015 – Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), the world’s leading Internet TV network, confirmed Las Leyendas (The Legends) will be the first animated Netflix original series to be produced in Latin America. The first season of thirteen episodes will premiere worldwide exclusively on the streaming service in 2017, and will feature the work of writer/producer James Krieg (Spooksville). Las Leyendas is based on the successful trilogy of children’s films created by Anima Estudios –La Leyenda de la Nahuala (The Legend of the Nahuala), La Leyenda de la Llorona (The Legend of the Llorona) and La Leyenda de las Momias (The Legend of the Mummies)- and on the characters created by award-winning producer Ricardo Arnaiz.
Set in the 1800s, this whimsical adventure centers on Leo San Juan, a reluctant but heroic teen boy with the ability to communicate with ghosts and monsters. One day, Leo’s hometown vanishes into another dimension, prompting Leo to join forces with a phantasmagorical group of misfits: Don Andrés, a somewhat loony yet amicable old knight; Teodora, a know-it-all social media whiz; Alebrije, a perpetually ravenous mythological creature; and Finado and Moribunda, two lively, ever charming sugar candy skulls.
This bizarre team must band together to defeat Quetzalcoatl, an inter-dimensional entity who has sought to conquer the universe for centuries. Leo and his fantastical friends will travel on a magic ship across time to the most famous and mystical places on Earth to fight off the evil forces that threaten the welfare of all.
Las Leyendas will be executive produced by Fernando de Fuentes and Jose C. Garcia de Letona of Anima Estudios, a Mexican animation studio credited with the production and creation of popular animated content for kids, such as El Chavo Animado and Top Cat: The Movie. James Krieg is a writer and producer best known for his work in several animated series including Scooby-doo! Mystery Incorporated, Ben 10 and Justice League, in addition to Spooksville.
