“Only the Dawning Sun Will Save You” at the GREAT HORROR CAMPOUT on June 7 and 8 at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. Bringing a unique kind of camping experience to Los Angeles, the campout is set to give campers an overnight experience reminiscent of ‘80s slasher films. Tents, horror movies, bonfires and marshmallow roasting are only a small part of the nights events. For an even more extreme horror experience campers can participate in the Hell Hunt, an interactive experience that bring campers face to face with their worst nightmares while in search for the items which they are hunting.

“The first rule is that we can change the rules…when we want, for any reason we want, and without notice.  Campers will need to be listening for the Camp Headmasters announcements for rule changes if they plan on escaping elimination from the Hell Hunt.” said Ten Thirty One Productions, President, Melissa Carbone. The Hell Hunt sends campers bathing in the blood of a “Pope Lick,” partaking in a sacrificial voodoo ritual, digging through road kill amongst “Beasts of Bray” and much more. Campers will have to use creative thinking and problem solving to find the most coveted items and compete for the title of “Hell Master.”  Those who complete the Hell Hunt will receive a “Golden Ticket” to the LA Haunted Hayride good for unlimited rides during the 2013 Halloween season.

Campers need to report to the Great Horror Campout, Base Camp at 8pm where they will meet the Camp Headmaster for the first time, receive dinner, tent assignments, Hell Hunt Bags and more.

 From Ten Thirty One Productions, creators of the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, the Great Horror Campout will be an overnight, twelve-hour experience that puts campers into an horror camping adventure filled with events.

The LAPD came out along with 93.9FM to the Boyle Heights Farmers Market on Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. in support of the release of “End of Watch” on BluRay and DVD.

Three officers along with co-chair for the community advisory committee board  Margarita Amador attended the event talking to community members and handing out goodies. “It’s a very good turn out. The purpose of the LAPD to be here today is really to promote the ‘HIDE IT, LICK IT, KEEP IT’ campaign, educating the community about protecting their valuables so they don’t become victims of car theft,” says Amador.

The community was able to interact with the officers as they made line to get their free tacos from Tacos La Doña. Along with their campaign the LAPD was there to invite people to their academy, “It’s a great opportunity for them to learn all aspects of the police department, so they understand why certain procedures are done when their’s a crime and when they handcuff somebody there is a reason behind it. So, that academy will really help the community. This is a perfect place to recruit because their audience (the community) is already there,” says Amador. “Alot of aspects of the movie are realistic of the LAPD but there were a couple of things that were exaggerated I think in my opinion. Police officers do not take off their belt and fight with someone, one-on-one, that doesn’t happen,” says Amador.

The ending of the film was also unrealistic to Amador as LAPD works hard to reduce response time on calls, especially when other officers are already involved.

The ladies of Exitos 93.9FM in Los Angeles played games with those in attendance and handed out prizes to the winners. DVDs of the movie, extra raffle tickets for the main prize of Six Flags Magic Mountain tickets, and other gifts from the movie. The crowd was quite large as many waited in line for their free tacos.

The crime action-drama “End of Watch” comes to BluRay and DVD on Jan. 22.

Leatherface serves up flavorful tacos at Sonora Bakery on Whittier Blvd. at 1PM on Jan. 3 to the numerous people in attendance.

The lively ladies of 93.9FM were masters of ceremony with music and giveaways of posters, horror DVDs, Texas Chainsaw 3D t-shirts, Texas Chainsaw 3D Candles, and passes to attend Texas Chainsaw 3D in theaters.

Anticipating the free tickets to see Texas Chainsaw 3D in theaters the crowed gathered around the announcers tables to see who the lucky winners would be. Eager people participated in fast paced games to win the free movie passes having to be quick to answer questions posed by the high spirited hosts. Many different people won a variety of prizes from the raffle giveaway 93.9FM held.

Even the employees of Sonora Bakery had the opportunity to join in and win in the raffle. The crowed gathered on the sidewalk in front of Sonora Bakery located at 4484 E. Whittier Blvd. in Los Angeles right off the 710 freeway. The sweet bread smelled delicious and one of their employees, Daniel, said they make sweet bread in many different styles like Mexican sweet bread, Salvadorian, and many others.

Tacos La Doña food truck served up many different meat tacos, asada(steak), pollo(chicken), asuero(steak brisket) al pastor(marinated stead), lengua(tongue), tripas(guts), and cabeza(head). They smelled great an tasted delicious. It was no shock how crowded the food truck was after having tasted a few if the tacos.

The MCs of 93.9FM handed out Texas Chainsaw 3D posters, both small and large, to the remaining few that stayed to the end if the event.

Texas Chainsaw 3D opens in theaters everywhere Jan. 4th. Special screening in specific locations on Jan. 3 at 10pm so check your area or availability. Keep an eye on www.iwatchmike.com for a full review of the movie.

The Vincent Price Art Museum hosted a reception for Carlos Almaraz: A Life Recalled on Saturday September 8th. The reception brought out Victoria Price, daughter of Vincent Price, to her first exhibition reception. Victoria expressed her joy for the exhibit calling it an “inspiration” and said “Welcome to a show that I think is going to transform alot of students lives, and certainly all of us here tonight can see the power of this work.” Dan “Eddie” Guerrero excited the crowd with his wit and comedy. Guerrero, Elsa Flores Almaraz, and Mark Guerrero share their personal attachment to the exhibit which shows an intimate personal side of Carlos Almaraz.

The art exhibited is vibrant and astonishing. Colorful art pieces of pastel , acrylic, and oil pairings. Elsa Flores Almaraz, who did not want to be called widow rather beloved of the late Carlos Almaraz, says  “We for the first time get to see an intimate portrait of who Carlos was.” Dan Guerrero, a childhood friend of Carlos Almaraz, will be performing a solos show written and performed by him on Thursday, October 4th at 1PM free for students with ID. The show will be at ELAC Performing Arts Center P2 Proscenium Theater. Followed by a second performance on October 6th, open to all, with ticket prices at $10 in the same theater. The show, entitles “Gaytino!”, is driven by Dan’s lifelong friendship with Carlos Almaraz.

This exhibit surely is very diverse spanning through the many periods of Almaraz’s life. From childhood, to moving to East Los Angeles. To his time in New York and his return to East Los Angeles. Self portraits, pictures, creative and political, and so much more is on display. Many pieces from personal collections by friends and family are displayed. Pieces never before seen by anyone other than those close to Almaraz.

Victoria Priced said that her father believed that “art can not only change your life, but it can save your life.” That is exactly what this exhibit aims to do. The exhibit is open to the public and runs through December 8, 2012. The Vincent Price Art Museum is located on the East Los Angeles College campus in Monterey Park.
