ATROCIOUS…what do I say about this one. Well, as soon as I saw the trailer – I was like, “This doesn’t look bad. It might be another run with the camera in the hand movie…but it looks promising.” The movie’s directed by Fernando Barreda Luna…I’m not really familiar with his other work (sorry dude)…well…it starts off with some cops – - finding a family that’s been brutally murdered. Do they have clues? Fingerprints? Anything? Well, yes they do – - how about 37 hours of videotape!! Yep – 37 hours.
OK…what you see in ATROCIOUS is…the actual video BEFORE the murders takes place. Yep…everything that goes down.
The story goes like this…Dad drops off a mom, three children, and a dog. The oldest son and sister decided to investigate a local urban legend…where does this legend take place…ahhh, how about in their backyard! Yep – apparently weird shit has happened at the cottage their staying at, as well as the crazy ass maze of a backyard. Well, as they get deeper into everything…all hell breaks loose!!
Now…I’m just going to keep it real…for me…the beginning and middle of the movie was pretty cool…but the ending…ahhh, I was hoping it would’ve been better. I expected something supernatural…I was hoping it was going to be something supernatural…but I was wrong. Boooo!
Is it worth checking out? Sure, but if you’re not a fan of the whole shot in first person/Blair Witch style camera work – - ya might wanna stay away from this one. There’s a lot of running around and screaming. (LOL)
I give ATROCIOUS… 3 out of 5 POPCORNS!
