Mike the Movie Guy on March 27th, 2012 | MOVIE REVIEWS
I checked out Provident Films the movie, OCTOBER BABY the other night. The movie’s about a girl named Hannah – college student…seems like a cool chick. One night – she’s making her theatrical debut on stage…all of a sudden…SHE COLLAPSES…right in front of everyone. After she’s released from the hospital – her doctor breaks the news to her and her parents. The reason her why her body’s never been 100%…well…it’s because of a difficult birth..see…Hannah was born a premie. Finding out this news wasn’t everything – - – her parents then drop the REAL bomb on her. Hannah finds out that she was actually adopted…GET THIS…after a failed abortion attempt.
Yep – - her parents were keeping all of this a secret until the right time came along to tell her. (Yeah, it didn’t go as planned) Now, since Hannah’s pissed at her parents and she reeeallllyyy doesn’t wanna speak to them – she turns to her long time friend Jason. They have a little meeting of the minds – - and decide – - why not look for her birth mother. Hannah’s not really sure if she wants to do this (her dad doesn’t think it’s a good idea) – - but after sleeping on it – she decides to tag along with Jason and his friends – their going to New Orleans and since they’re going that way – - – they could always stop by Alabama to find the ‘mom.’ You pretty much follow her journey.
NOW…what did I think of this…hmmmmm…not going to lie…when it first started…I was thinking to myself, “Not a bad flick so far.” – - – but then it got terribly cheesy for me….right when the road trip starts. I couldn’t figure it out at first…there’s a part where the college kids stop at hotel for the night…and Jason and HIS girl actually can’t/don’t – I don’t know…sleep in the room together. Hannah has to share a room with HIS chick. Now keep in mind, Hannah likes Jason and he feels the same way about her – and Jason’s chick can see this. BUT…they still room together. WHO DOES THAT? That would never happen in real life! (lol) Then…something happens where Jason and Hannah decide to make the rest of the trip on their own.
Once again…they don’t sleep in the same bad. Jason’s on the floor and Hannah’s on the bed – - Yeah, Yeah…I know that happens in real life…but the way they do it in the movie…was cheesy.
…Then my girlfriend says out loud – “Is this one of those Christian movies?” and I answer, “I don’t think so.” – - but the more we watched – - it was. I called it a “PRO-LIFE MOVIE.” To me – they sure were trying to shove that whole “Abortion is bad stuff” down our throats. See – I’m “PRO-CHOICE.” Now – there was a positive thing to the movie – - “forgiveness” and all – - – but…I thought it was done in a cheesy way. (lol) Just wasn’t my kind of movie. OCTOBER BABY opened this weekend at the following theaters: Gulf Pointe 30, Willowbrook 24, Deerbrook 24, First Colony, and Edwards MarqE.
I give OCTOBER BABY… 2 out of 5 POPCORNS!
