Linda Movie Review: GRINGO

GRINGO review by Linda Ruiz

Gringo is an action-packed dark comedy that will have you screaming with laughter and plain old screaming out loud.  David Oyelowo, stars in his first comedy playing Harold Soyinka, a middle manager in a company that produces cannabis pills in Mexico.  His nefarious bosses played by Charlize Theron and Joel Edgerton are going to merge with a larger company leaving a naïve Harold unemployed.

When the trio takes a business trip to Mexico to make sure that everything is running smoothly at the factory, Harold inadvertently discovers the truth. His naiveté turns to unexpected action when he stays behind in Mexico to change the course of his life.

He begins with faking his kidnapping to collect on the insurance policy, which is the funniest long distance phone call ever filmed. Unfortunately for Harold, that policy has been canceled. His desperation and frustration take him on an unwanted trip to the local drug lords hacienda, a partnership with a mercenary turned missionary and a hilarious cast of characters who all play a part in Harold getting his life back in order.

Special thank you to STX Entertainment for the great food.
